4 x 4 ADVENTURE ALONG THE OPIUM TRAIL |
| (2
Days / 1 Night) |
|
As
part of the Thai government’s fight against opium production,
new farm-to-market roads are being cut along the ridges of the Thai-Burma
border. Hill tribe villages participating in the crop-substitution
program now have access by four-wheel drive to the markets they
need. You, too, can travel along these spectacular routes and see
villages which were formerly accessible only by the mule trains
of Khun Sa, the notorious opium warlord. Visit the homes of numerous
tribal groups along the way to Ban Hin Taek, opium headquarters
turned development center.
Learn
how the hill peoples are being integrated into Thai national life.
Visit schools, see village water systems, walk in the flower gardens,
which bring additional income to these remote places. Meet the
people who have dedicated their careers to both development and
the preservation of the natural beauty of the Thai-Burma watershed
areas. Experience the unforgettable views across two countries
at Ban Hua Mae Kham, a Lisu village perched on the edge of the
border. This two-day, one night trip begins in Chiang Rai and
may be extended to include other touring options offered by Golden
TriangleTours.
